Transmission Electronically
When transmitting files containing critical data electronically, it is crucial to ensure that the content is encrypted before or while in transit. IU offers multiple options for sharing electronic files containing critical data, including:
- Secure Share encrypts data in transit and at rest, requires IU Login authentication for those affiliated with the university, and requires password authentication for non-IU collaborators.
- Microsoft at IU Secure Storage can be used to transfer files containing all data classifications.
- Office Message Encryption encrypts emails containing critical data when it leaves the IU network.
- The SSH (Secure Shell) provides an encrypted channel to transfer data safely. These techniques require password or asymmetric key authentication.
