In 2011, the UIPO welcomed two distinguished guests for a morning lecture, and then led a session on the then-new policy ISPP-24 (Web Site Privacy Notices) and an overview of the accompanying software application, the Web Site Privacy Notice Generator.
The event originated at the IU Bloomington campus and was broadcast to all other IU campuses.

We now live in a world where the Internet records everything and forgets nothing — where every online photo, status update, Twitter post and blog entry by and about us can be stored forever. This everlasting electronic memory threatens our ability to control the impression we present to others. Do we still have the option to reinvent ourselves and start anew? 20 years from now, will we be able to find a political candidate that doesn't have an unfortunate incident recorded on the Internet? Is it possible to remain unknown anymore, or even to be alone? A Wired Magazine writer attempted to "disappear" in the U.S. for 30 days; a resident of the United Kingdom tried to do the same there. Both were stalked and found with assistance from the Internet. What are the privacy challenges and how can they be addressed? What can we do as a society to allow human beings to grow and change, forget past regrettable actions, or simply enjoy not being found?

The stimulus bill, the health care bill, and indeed the current presidential administration of the U.S. emphasize and provide support for the conversion of health information to electronic form in order to improve medicine. Health Information Exchanges have been implemented to use this information in support of emergency health care and research. What personal health information is involved in this effort and why? What benefits will this provide ordinary citizens and businesses struggling to maintain health coverage for their employees? Most importantly, how will this information be kept private? So why a Privacy Notice?
A web site privacy notice (or privacy statement) is a public description of an organization's information management practices with respect to information collected by the organization's web site. Such notices serve two purposes:
Notification of privacy practices is a basic principle of good information management, and builds visitor confidence. Furthermore, the process of creating and maintaining a privacy notice requires web site content owners and site managers to understand their information-handling practices and may reveal potential issues to be addressed.
