The event began with a two-campus presentation. Merri Beth Lavagnino, Chief Information Policy Officer and Beth Cate, Associate General Counsel spoke about many of the privacy and legal issues in today's higher education landscape. One presented from IUPUI and the other from IUB, with the entire session broadcast online to the other campuses.
IU's inaugural Data Privacy Day was also one of action. The Information Policy Office offered free document destruction in honor of the event. Departments submitted requests to participate.
UIPO staff then went door-to-door to collect boxes from academic and administrative departments across IU Bloomington and IUPUI. In total, over 6,000 pounds of paper documents were destroyed, safely.
During this event, UIPO contracted with approved university document and media destruction vendors. For more about data destruction, visit our page: Securely Removing Data.
