The purpose of a privacy notice is to provide an accessible document that explains how that unit processes information, and how it applies data protection principles. At Indiana University, any website that hosts or processes personal and institutional data should have a notice in support of Web Site, Web Application, and Web Services Privacy Notices (ISPP-24).
IU departments and units that need help creating privacy notices for their websites can use the Website Privacy Notice Generator developed by the University Information Policy Office (UIPO) and University Information Security Office (UISO). It works by asking you a series of questions about your department or unit's privacy practices with regard to your site. Then it uses your answers to customize a privacy notice for you based on a template.
If your website's privacy practices are especially complicated, contact the UIPO for assistance.
