Subject Matter Expert for General Counsel

Jeffrey Goetz advises on a broad range of legal matters for the university, including related to governance, financial management, international transactions, information technology, faculty affairs, research compliance, data privacy, and tax.

In addition, Jeff serves as the legal liaison to several university offices:

• The Office of the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, including the Controller’s Office, Treasurer’s Office, and the Office of Procurement Services;
• The Office of the Vice President for International Affairs, including the Global Gateway Network, Office of Overseas Study, and the Office of International Partnerships; and
• The Office of the Vice President for Informational Technology & CIO and its suboffices.

Jeff also serves as one of the primary legal contacts for the Office of Research Administration and the Office of Research Compliance, including the Export Control Office.

He acts as lead in-house counsel on bond and investment matters and sits on the university’s investment committee. Additionally, he serves as lead counsel on security and privacy matters and sits on the university’s data management council.

Prior to joining our office, Jeff was a data privacy officer and legal counsel for Avanade, a joint venture between Accenture and Microsoft that provides information technology services. Jeff also worked for several years as an associate at Faegre Baker Daniels (now Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath) within the international and corporate practice groups.

Jeff is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and has been since 2013.

He graduated with highest distinction from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington with a B.S. in Business, and concentrations in Accounting, Finance, and International Business. Jeff received his J.D., cum laude, from New York University (NYU) School of Law.
